Tim Tomasik Discusses Civility and Technology for Law Day 2023

May 2, 2023

Law Day is an informal holiday that is held on May 1st each year, and it celebrates the practice of law in modern society while offering an opportunity for those in the legal profession to provide a better understanding of how these issues affect people's lives. This year, the theme of Law Day was "Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration." For Law Day 2023, the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin released a special supplement that included articles by may leading figures in the Illinois legal community on topics related to civility.

Attorney Tim Tomasik provided an article for Law Day 2023 in his capacity as the President of the Chicago Bar Association. His piece, titled "Civility costs nothing, buys everything," looked at how the increased reliance on technology has affected communications during legal proceedings and led to instances of uncivility. He highlighted the need for developing good communication skills and positive character traits to improve civility in the practice of law.

To read Mr. Tomasik's article, you can download it in PDF format or visit the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin website.
