Robinson Helicopter Nearly Hits Swimmers on Crowded Miami Beach

February 19, 2022

On February 19, hundreds of beachgoers enjoying a warm Saturday in Miami Beach, Florida became witnesses to the latest Robinson helicopter to plummet from the sky. Thankfully, they were not also the latest victims of Robinson’s poor design. Video footage startlingly reveals how close the falling R44 came to hitting swimmers just feet away from where the helicopter slammed into the ocean.

Two passengers on board sustained injuries and were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The pilot was not severely injured.

The shock of this crash should not diminish its lack of surprise. This is one of a long line of Robinson R44 helicopters to fall from the sky due to its poor design. The Robinson R44 is one of the best-selling helicopters ever produced, but it is also one of the deadliest. This is due in large part to its low-cost design that forgoes many safety features found on other helicopters, leaving pilots minimal time to react to avoid disaster.
